I wish I could explain this to allistics: I know it looks like autistic people are No Fun and Stuck In Their Ways with their ‘picky’ eating habits and their resistance to change and all. But if your world was full of carefully-concealed torture traps, you’d probably be a bit less ‘adventurous’ too.

Consider these fictional examples:

Oh, you want to go somewhere new to eat? Well, now most restaurants serve menu items which secretly have the texture of cold snot. Good luck telling which ones to avoid! 

Ordering new clothes online? Now some online stores have items made from steel wool – that aren’t labeled! Hope you get one of the soft ones. 

Going to hang out at a new place? Fifty-fifty odds their lighting will consist of billion-watt industrial floodlights instead of the more usual fixtures. Or perhaps they will be playing the melodious sounds of two-dozen colicky babies over their sound system. Maybe you enjoy gambling with those odds, but I don’t. 

Everyone, even allistics, have a threshold of sensory irritation they just can’t ignore…it’s just lower for autistic people. My partner can block out the lights/sounds that drive me crazy…but she’s extremely touch-sensitive, so if I say “This input is just like being tickled”, she gets it. Have you ever seen a movie where someone’s interrogated under a spotlight? Imagine facing that while driving home, every day. 

It’s all relative, people.

𝙿𝚘𝚙𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚛 𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚎𝚌 𝙵𝚒𝚌 𝚃𝚛𝚘𝚙𝚎𝚜 (10/?): Angels & Demons 𝙰𝚄

Where Alec is an angel and Magnus is a demon. Sometimes heaven commands Alec to chase Magnus for his sins on earth. Other times, Magnus tries to tempt Alec or they just have a forbidden love. Every time they fight against heaven and hell to be together. Possibly they also try to stop the apocalypse. Hallelujah!

Also, this trope could include all the fics where Alec has wings, Magnus is more demonic or inherits Edom.

𝙿𝚘𝚙𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚛 𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚎𝚌 𝙵𝚒𝚌 𝚃𝚛𝚘𝚙𝚎𝚜 (9/?): Soulmates/ Soulmarks 𝙰𝚄

Where Alec and Magnus are soulmates and share soulmarks or their marks complement each other. Alec usually hides his mark because he’s embarrassed to be tied up with a downworlder and the same is true for Magnus who is bonded with a shadowhunter. But when they finally meet, they connect and, with a little effort, they could both break their own biases and be happy.

𝙿𝚘𝚙𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚛 𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚎𝚌 𝙵𝚒𝚌 𝚃𝚛𝚘𝚙𝚎𝚜 (8/?): Reverse 𝙰𝚄

Where Alec is a warlock and Magnus is a shadowhunter. The character roles are all inverted (shadowhunters are warlocks and vise versa) but storyline follows canon. They conserve their original personalities so Alec is a grumpy hermit and Magnus loves flirting and fashion.

𝙿𝚘𝚙𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚛 𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚎𝚌 𝙵𝚒𝚌 𝚃𝚛𝚘𝚙𝚎𝚜 (7/?): 𝙰𝚛𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚍/𝙵𝚘𝚛𝚌𝚎𝚍 𝙼𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚒𝚊𝚐𝚎 𝙰𝚄

Where the clave and the downworld are in figthing and for make peace they arrange a marriage between a shadowhunter and a downworlder. They usually choose Alec because his family lose his power in Idris since his parents where in the circle, and they choose Magnus because his one of the most powerful warlocks alive.

Other times the war is already over but the clave needs to do a social peace declaration with a political marriage.

A few cases include one of them being a war prisioner but in general Alec is really open minded and acept Magnus’s culture. They find love in each other so they stay together.

𝙿𝚘𝚙𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚛 𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚎𝚌 𝙵𝚒𝚌 𝚃𝚛𝚘𝚙𝚎𝚜 (6/?): 𝙼𝚞𝚗𝚍𝚊𝚗𝚎 / Forsaken 𝙰𝚄

Where Alec is stripped of their marks because he is gay or because he dates Magnus. He left his old life and must learn how to live as a mundane. He usually lives with Magnus who helps him to adapt to his new lifestyle starting a new carreer similar as hunt, related with law and justice or something artistic. They have kids and Alec is completly out and pride.

At the inverse trope Alec is kidnapped or changed as baby and grow up as a mundane but then he develops the sight and learn about shadowhunter’s heredity. He usually knows his family and other downworlders like Magnus.
